Details
The automotive gearbox is a core powertrain component of vehicles. Its primary function is to adjust the rotational speed and torque output from the power source, matching the vehicle requirements under different driving conditions including start-up, acceleration, hill climbing and high-speed cruising. It also enables reverse travel for the vehicle.
The gearbox assembly line is an automated turnkey manufacturing system, which assembles discrete components such as gear sets, transmission shafts, housings, clutches and sensors sequentially into finished, qualified gearbox assemblies. This production system is widely used for assembling manual transmission (MT), automatic transmission (AT), as well as electric drive reducer (EDU) for new energy vehicles, supporting mixed-flow manufacturing of multiple gearbox variants.
Core Equipment of Gearbox Assembly Line
1. Automated Assembly Equipment
Servo pressing machines and collaborative robots are deployed across stations. Collaborative robots with 5–50kg payload assist operators in lifting heavy subassemblies and completing precision part alignment. Servo press stations monitor real-time force-displacement curves to ensure accurate press fitting of bearings, shafts and sealing components.
2. Conveying & Positioning System
Workpieces are transported via AGV carts or overhead suspension conveyor chains. The takt time can be set ≤60 seconds per unit, with positioning accuracy up to ±1mm. Flexible quick-change fixtures are equipped on tooling pallets; full positioning and model switching for different gearbox types can be finished within 30 seconds, realizing mixed-model production.
3. Inspection & Traceability Equipment
- Machine vision inspection system: detects missing parts, wrong components and assembly defects, recognition accuracy reaches 0.1mm.
- Air tightness leak test stations: check housing sealing performance to prevent oil leakage, a mandatory step for gearbox assembly.
- Dynamic performance test bench: integrated high-speed data acquisition system, recording more than 300 performance parameters for each finished gearbox.
4. Auxiliary Systems
Automatic part feeders sort and deliver small parts such as gears and bolts, triggering automatic alarms in case of material shortage. Quantitative lubricant filling machines offer filling accuracy of ±1%, supporting switching between multiple types of gear oils. Servo torque tightening systems are applied to fasten housing bolts, recording torque & angle data for each bolt.
5. MES Manufacturing Execution System
The MES system displays real-time production progress and key process parameters. It automatically marks abnormal data in red for early alert. Every gearbox carries unique identification, achieving full-lifecycle assembly traceability.
Main Assembly Workflow of Gearbox Assembly Line
- Housing Pre-assembly Clean and inspect upper & lower gearbox housings. Install sealing rings, bearing seats and positioning pins.
- Shaft & Gear Module Press-fitting Mount transmission shafts, gear sets and bearings. Servo presses complete precision press fitting while recording force-displacement curves.
- Subassembly Installation Fit clutch assemblies, synchronizer rings, sensors and shift actuators onto the housing.
- Servo Bolt Tightening & Air Leakage Test Tighten housing bolts by servo torque guns. Perform air tightness testing to detect housing leakage risks.
- Lubricant Filling Quantitatively inject specified gearbox oil by automatic filling machine.
- Offline Dynamic Performance Testing Load the finished gearbox onto dynamic test bench, run no-load and load tests to verify shifting, torque and noise performance.
- Marking & Final Inspection Laser mark serial number for traceability. Carry out final visual inspection, then qualified gearboxes are offloaded and packed.
Core Technical Features
- High-precision Assembly Control Servo press and torque monitoring ensure repeatable assembly quality; all key tightening and pressing data is saved for traceability.
- Flexible Mixed Model Production Quick-change fixture design supports fast switching between different gearbox models without major line reconstruction.
- Multi-station Error-proof Mechanism Machine vision, poka-yoke fixture and barcode scanning prevent wrong part installation and missing assembly.
- Digital Production Management MES connects all test and assembly stations, realizing real-time production monitoring, quality alert and full product traceability.
Application Scenarios
- Fuel vehicle MT / AT gearbox manufacturing
- New energy vehicle electric drive reducer (EDU) assembly
- Commercial vehicle gearbox assembly projects
